FIGHTING FOR YOU IN KILBURN

ABOUT ME

On Your Side

rita-red-dress.jpeg

I am a working mother of four, a community activist, GMB, Unison, and Co-operative Party member, and am the first Labour councillor to be elected for the ward where I grew up and work as a Befriending support coordinator.

I entered politics in 2014 to fight a ‘safe’ Tory ward, Maida Vale – unseating the Tories and making it Labour for the first time in 20 years.  We subsequently made the whole ward Labour in 2018.  My natural campaigning abilities have helped to increase the Labour vote.

I have learnt a great deal as an elected member, and am directly involved in a variety of locally representative bodies and Trusts, including housing / charitable organisations, and Social Enterprises, such as Paddington Youth Enterprises.

I hold regular Resident surgeries and resist continuing cuts threatening youth and older people’s facilities.

I have assisted people / families affected by the Grenfell tragedy in getting respite breaks at Paddington Farm in Glastonbury.

I have successfully petitioned to introduce accessible toilets (+ baby changing facilities) at Paddington Recreation Centre, and have ensured funding for a local Santander docking station.

I insisted that a local development’s Community Centre provide open services for local residents and community groups.

In 2022, after having moved to Brent, I stood to be a Labour Councillor in  Kilburn and won the seat.

I believe change happens from the bottom up - not trickling from the top down, and as your local representative, on your side, I will continue to fight for this on your behalf.
