My Pledges
ON YOUR SIDE - A PROVEN WINNER
I am a two-time winner against the Tories. In 2014, I fought hard to become the first Labour Councillor in Maida Vale since 1986 – and I kept working after that. Labour won all three seats in 2018 thanks to the proof that we would work for them. I’ve learned how to get through to people who have never voted Labour, as well as our existing supporters. I listen, and I am on your side.
BUILD HOMES AND PROTECT RENTERS
Campaigning for more good quality council homes and to protect estate residents from councils and developers trying to short-change them. Working to see a universal landlord register and rent controls to crack down on rogue landlords.
INVEST IN COMMUNITIES
Tory cuts to youth services in England amounting to £660m over the past decade have fuelled antisocial behaviour and violent crime. I continue to campaign to reverse these cuts. We need better schooling, housing, jobs, and youth services to truly tackle crime, as well as more police and community police.
TACKLING THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY
We must continue to hold the Government and local authorities to account regarding their promises to protect the environment, from the small ideas that make residents' lives better, to a city-wide Plan For London.
A PROPERLY FUNDED AND EFFICIENT NHS
The Tories promised an extra 50,000 nurses for the NHS, but instead, they're not only underfunding it, they're parcelling sections of it off to the private sector. Two and a half years of living with a pandemic has crippled it further, throwing into stark relief the effects of a lack of funding, the pay cuts, and the staffing shortages. The NHS needs a workforce plan to provide staff with a liveable wage and better working conditions. I will fight tirelessly for our NHS.
A £15 NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE
In a financial climate where two parents/ guardians are working, people should not be forced to be reliant on Universal Credit and food banks to make up for low wages. I will campaign for a £15 per hour National Minimum Wage for all.
Higher wages not only help people to pay their bills, that money is funnelled back into the economy.
A GOOD START FOR EVERY CHILD
Childcare costs for working families are exorbitant. Not only is lack of childcare is a barrier to the labour market, it is a vital infrastructure. I will fight to see a childcare cost cap of 10% of total income introduced for all families, as well as universal childcare provision.
